Protect Your Child This Flu Season

Flu season is approaching, and now is the time to make sure your child is protected. Peds Care, P.C. is now scheduling flu vaccinations for our patients.

Why Is the Flu Vaccine Important?

Influenza is more than just a bad cold. It can cause significant illness in children and, in some cases, lead to serious complications or hospitalization.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends annual influenza vaccination for all children 6 months of age and older who do not have a medical contraindication.

Annual flu vaccination is an important way to help protect your child and reduce the spread of influenza within families and our community.

Timing Matters

The AAP recommends that children receive their recommended flu vaccine dose or doses ideally by the end of October.

Some children 6 months through 8 years of age may need two doses at least 4 weeks apart, depending on their previous flu vaccination history. Starting early helps ensure children who need two doses have enough time to complete their vaccination series.

Why Get Your Child’s Flu Vaccine at Their Pediatrician’s Office?

Your pediatrician knows your child and their medical history. Receiving your child’s flu vaccine at their pediatrician’s office allows their healthcare team to review their immunization history, determine whether one or two flu vaccine doses are recommended, and ensure their vaccination is properly documented as part of their medical record.

It also provides parents with an opportunity to ask questions about the flu vaccine and discuss any concerns with healthcare professionals who are familiar with their child’s health history.

At Peds Care, P.C., immunizations are an important part of the comprehensive and preventive care we provide. Keeping your child’s vaccinations within their pediatric medical home helps maintain a complete immunization record and supports coordinated care as your child grows.
